hello wanderer how has your stay been so far? is this what you thought freedom looked like? cord phones and white walls jumpsuits and harsh lights just another stop on your journey to find a home
would you do it again if you knew it would end like this? I want to show them everything you surrendered just to be locked away I want to scream in their faces no one no one leaves their home the only place they have ever known to start over completely willingly
I think he is wrong I do not think she looks young I think she looks like she’s lived she’s learned she’s loved and isn’t that better?
The first two poems are based on a trip to the Stewart detainment center. I felt very angry when I was writing them. I think that their living conditions are so inhumane. I can’t believe anyone should have to live that way, especially not people who were fighting for their lives in their home country before they came here. The last poem is about Jeong Kwan. I wrote this as I was watching a video about her and I wanted to capture just how wise she looks. I felt a sort of contentment as we watched the video. These were some of my favorite things we did throughout the two weeks and I wanted to try to capture some of my feelings and thoughts into poetry.
